We leave for the atmospheric polder village of Booitshoeke, we scooter via the rural field road, away from the flat paths. The Old Zeedijk Mill Avekapelle comes into view and we continue our way, taking the Molenpad to the quiet Eggewaartskapelle. We follow the direction Lovaart where the Beauvoordse Walhoeve is situated. Here they not only make delicious cheese but also heavenly ice cream. Want to taste? We drive on the Millebrug into the Heydehoekstraat and free, cheerful and relaxed we continue to scoot through this charming part of Westhoek aka “Bachten de Kupe “. We pass meadows with grazing cattle, a farm and in the distance a church tower. At most, the peace is interrupted by a chugging tractor. The village of Lampernisse, the most quiet village of the west corner, is located between the extensive protected basin grounds and beautiful historic polder grasslands . When we arrive in Nieuwkapelle we follow the slop path towards the pits. We continue our way and follow the twists and turns of the Yser. “Sint-Jacobs-Kapelle” The village is one of the fifteen charming villages in the Westhoek and is also described as “The middle of the world” because of the charm and the silence that reigns. “The Iron Tower” comes into view. For several years now, the tower has housed a museum: Museum aan de Yzer. With its 84m, the Yser Tower is the highest peace monument in Europe. Would you like to take a detour and visit Diksmuide? The market, it beguinage , the fish market …. Then we follow the twists and turns of the IJzeren, passing the corridor of death or « Boyau de la Mort “this is a complex of preserved trenches from the First World War. There where the carcasses of the two petroleum tanks are, we take the field road to the Oude-Stuivekenskerke.
